Trade turnover between Türkiye and Tatarstan has risen nearly ninefold in recent years, from $563 million in 2021 to approximately $5 billion in 2025. Türkiye’s Consul General in Kazan, Uğur Yılmaz, announced the figures at a reception marking the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye.
The diplomat said that approximately one-third of Turkish investments in Russia are currently concentrated in Tatarstan. He noted that relations between Russia and Türkiye are built on mutual respect and benefit and encompass energy, trade, tourism and culture.
The reception was held at the Tasigo Kazan Palace hotel in Kazan. The evening opened with a minute of silence and the Turkish national anthem, followed by a video address from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Yılmaz recalled the contributions of Tatar intellectuals Yusuf Akçura and Sadri Maksudi Arsal to the life of the young Republic of Türkiye.

A congratulatory message from Tatarstan Rais Rustam Minnikhanov to the president of Türkiye was read by Yuri Kamaltynov, deputy speaker of the republic’s State Council. The reception was also attended by Tatarstan Health Minister Almir Abashev, the republic’s deputy mufti Rishat Khamidullin, consuls from several countries and former Rubin player Gökdeniz Karadeniz.
This year, the Consulate General of Türkiye in Kazan is marking its 30th anniversary. It opened in September 1996 and became Türkiye’s first consulate general in Russia. Its consular district covers Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Mordovia, Mari El and Samara Region.
Factories owned by Turkish companies, including Şişecam, Kastamonu Entegre and Hayat Kimya, operate in Tatarstan.
