St. Petersburg expects an economic boost from the two Kanye West concerts scheduled to take place at Gazprom Arena on October 10 and 11. The events are expected to stimulate activity across several sectors of the city, particularly restaurants, hotels, short-term residential rentals, transportation and retail.
Spending could reach 5 billion rubles
Alexey Rodin, a financial consultant and founder of Rodin. Capital, said major events generate a strong influx of tourists to the regions where they are held. Based on the arena's capacity, Rodin said total spending by Russians could exceed 3 to 3.5 billion rubles and may reach 5 billion rubles under the baseline estimate.
Rodin said about half of this total would consist of ticket prices and that the resulting revenue would go to the organizers. He added that the city's direct economic contribution was estimated at between 1.5 and 2 billion rubles.
Security costs to come from the city budget
When assessing the concerts' economic impact, spending from the city budget on security during the events must also be taken into account. Rodin said the increase in revenue should be considered alongside these public expenditures.
