Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles again overnight on Oct. 19, the second such strike in a few hours. An air raid alert sounded in the capital at 2:55 a.m., followed by a series of explosions within minutes. Ukrainian media said at least 10 missiles were fired.
The strike damaged a critical energy infrastructure facility, cutting power to parts of Kyiv and the surrounding region. Electricity went out on the capital’s left bank after the explosions.
Footage filmed on Kyiv’s left bank during the attack shows a glow over the city.
One killed, eight injured
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a 21-year-old woman was killed in the attacks and the number of injured rose to eight, two of whom were hospitalized. In the Solomianskyi district, debris hit the first floor of a 25-story residential building, and three people were treated at the scene.
Debris also damaged an above-ground metro station on the left bank, along with tracks and cables. Chernihivska and Lisova stations were closed to passengers, and Red Line trains are running between Akademmistechko and Darnytsia.

First strike on the evening of Oct. 18
The first attack came late on the evening of Oct. 18. According to preliminary information, one missile hit a medical center building in the Desnianskyi district and another struck a non-residential building in the Dniprovskyi district. Monitoring channels said about eight ballistic missiles were launched in that attack, targeting energy facilities.
Drones also attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region overnight. Private houses were damaged in Dnipro and an 84-year-old woman was injured. Air defenses shot down 21 drones over the region.
Patriot shortage
According to CNN, Ukraine has again run out of missiles for its Patriot systems. Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that the United States supplies only 12 such missiles a month and that Russia fired 66 missiles at Ukraine last week, most of them ballistic.
