U.S. President Donald Trump raised the possibility that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could be resolved before winter begins. Speaking to reporters at the White House in Washington on Sept. 26, Trump said Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy could reach an agreement in the future.
Trump said the agreement could come "in the not-too-distant future" and even before a harsh winter begins. However, the U.S. president did not specify which year he was referring to or what conditions could make the agreement possible.
Putin said he was ready for negotiations
Vladimir Putin said a day earlier that Russia was ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine after the State Duma elections. Putin claimed that Kyiv had launched an intensive attack attempt against Moscow during the voting days.
The Russian president also said decisions regarding negotiations with Ukraine would be made in line with his country’s interests. Putin had previously said he could come to Moscow if Zelenskyy was ready for dialogue.
Trump called on Zelenskyy this week to travel to Moscow to restart peace talks, but Zelenskyy rejected the call.
