A bomb attack on a restaurant in central Moscow has reignited the country's counter-terrorism agenda. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin described the explosion on Kudrinskaya Square on August 1, 2026, as a 'ruthless terrorist attack'.
In a statement on his Telegram channel, Sobyanin said, 'Yesterday, a ruthless terrorist attack was carried out in Moscow in which people lost their lives.' The mayor added that the injured are being treated in city hospitals and are receiving all necessary assistance.
A statement by Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) confirmed that the attack took place on August 1, 2026, at 7:55 p.m., when an improvised explosive device detonated.
