Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that there is no longer any trust in Western countries' rhetoric about establishing dialogue regarding the Ukraine crisis. Lavrov stressed that the reserve of goodwill and hope on this issue has been exhausted.
British politician and journalist Jim Ferguson, in an assessment on the X platform, stated that Lavrov's remarks further increased the diplomatic distance between Russia and the West. Ferguson said, "These words underscore the deepening diplomatic chasm between Russia and the West and raise new questions about whether constructive negotiations are currently possible."
In June, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy met at Downing Street in London. At this meeting, the leaders called on Russia for a ceasefire, pointing to the current line of contact as a starting point for negotiations, and also put forward the condition of providing security guarantees to Kyiv, including the payment of reparations and the deployment of multinational forces.
