Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the detention of two Russian citizens in Crimea on allegations of spying for Ukrainian intelligence. The suspects were born in 1991 and 1996, the FSB said.
According to the FSB, the two had established covert communication with Ukrainian intelligence officers via Telegram. At their direction, they allegedly collected and relayed information about the locations of Russian Defense Ministry units, military personnel, air defense systems on the peninsula, and the results of Ukrainian military strikes on Russian territory.
The FSB noted that the suspects were arrested as part of a criminal case carrying a life sentence and that they had confessed.
Shortly before this case, the FSB conducted a similar operation in early July. Two Russian citizens, born in 1968 and 1986, were detained on charges of cooperating with Ukrainian intelligence to pass on information about Russian Armed Forces facilities and railway traffic on the Crimean Bridge, with the aim of damaging Russia’s economic security and defense capability.
