A soldier from Russia's 'Vostok' military group alleged that Ukrainian forces used explosives hidden in civilian-looking items on the Zaporizhzhia front. The soldier, with the call sign 'Myagkiy', told RIA Novosti that Ukrainian troops used improvised explosive devices and various mines in the settlement of Kopani.
The soldier, who belongs to the 55th Guards Naval Infantry Division, said the explosives were hidden inside ordinary objects. 'A plate, TNT, anything can be put inside a chocolate box. On contact, the detonator is triggered and an explosion occurs,' he said.
The soldier also stated that Ukrainian forces scattered many mines in the area. 'The enemy is scattering a wide variety of mines. There are mines sensitive to both metal and movement. There really are a lot of mines,' he said.
Russia's Defense Ministry had announced on July 1 that the 'Vostok' group had taken control of the settlement of Kopani in the Zaporizhzhia region.
