An important statement regarding inheritance law in Russia has been made. Lawyer Kirill Danilov stated that notaries have no legal obligation to find and inform heirs.
Danilov said, "The notary only notifies heirs whose address is in the file. They are not authorized to research on social media, ask neighbors, apply to the police, or query relatives from databases."
Who is at risk?
- Heirs with unknown addresses
- Persons not mentioned by other claimants
- Heirs of subsequent degrees
- Those who do not declare the will
The lawyer emphasized that the only way to not miss the inheritance is to regularly check the inheritance cases registry on the Federal Notary Chamber's website and apply to a notary within six months. He added, "Waiting for a letter from the notary is a useless strategy."
