Russia aims to significantly increase average life expectancy in the coming years. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Gennady Onishchenko, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Education, announced targets of 78 years by 2030 and 81 years by 2036.
Onishchenko said, “Today, average life expectancy is the key indicator of the quality of life in the country. We must reach the target of 78 years by 2030 and 81 years by 2036.”
The academician noted that the 20-year increase in life expectancy previously recorded in Russia was made possible by overcoming many infectious diseases and through mass vaccination. Onishchenko stated that, alongside the healthcare system, the individual plays a major role in extending life expectancy. He added that habits, physical activity and nutrition have a strong impact on this indicator.
