The claims contained in the reciprocal statements by Russia and Ukraine are difficult to verify independently because of the ongoing war.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, visited Moscow on Saturday. The two are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday as part of U.S.-mediated efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
