On Ukraine’s Independence Day, the European Commission approved a new €6.1 billion financing plan for the country’s defense procurement.
The funds are intended for the purchase of air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radar.
Included in the €90 billion loan package
The new procurement plan will be financed through the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan planned for Ukraine in 2026–2027. Of the package, €30 billion is expected to be used for budget support and €60 billion for defense assistance.
The €6.1 billion in funding was added to the previously approved €16 billion in defense procurement. Ukraine has received €8.35 billion of the earlier procurement funding.
Von der Leyen: Support is determined and concrete
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe’s support for Ukraine was determined and concrete.
Von der Leyen said Russia had intensified its attacks and announced that they had approved €6.1 billion in funding for the air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radar Ukraine urgently needs.
