The Zamoskvoretsky District Court in Russia's capital Moscow announced its ruling in the copyright lawsuit filed by Margarita Suhankina, the lead singer of the country's famous pop group Mirage. The court ruled that the group's founder and composer Andrey Lityagin had infringed the artist's rights.
According to the court ruling, it was established that Suhankina was the performer of the musical works recorded on phonograms released under the name Mirage. The artist learned in the fall of 2023 that Lityagin was using exclusive rights to these works.
According to the press service of the Moscow City Court, the court banned Lityagin from using the joint performance rights belonging to Suhankina. It was also ruled that more than 8 million rubles in compensation be paid to the artist.
The ban, which has entered into force, covers a total of 29 works, including hit songs such as "1000 Stars", "The Night Sparkles", "The Stars Are Silent", "I No Longer Want To", and "Music Connected Us".
Mirage group was founded in 1986 by Andrey Lityagin. Margarita Suhankina, the group's first singer, performed its first three hits: "The Stars Are Waiting for Us", "Video", and "Tonight".
