A Ukrainian drone struck a vehicle in Belgorod, Russia, killing Alexander Logvinov, the head of the Communist Party's local branch. The attack occurred in an area near the Russia-Ukraine border.
The Russian Communist Party stated that Logvinov died on Tuesday, July 22, in what it called a "terrorist attack by the Ukrainian armed forces targeting civilian infrastructure."
State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov confirmed the incident on social media, saying, "A drone hit Alexander's car and he died at the scene." Gavrilov noted that the attack was targeting a "commercial facility" at the time.
Regional emergency services had earlier reported that a civilian died as a result of an explosion and fire in a vehicle. The Communist Party's regional organization will hold a farewell ceremony for Logvinov on Thursday.
Deputy Gavrilov said that 541 civilians have been killed and around 4,000 injured in the Belgorod region since Russia launched its military operation in 2022. Belgorod is located about 35 kilometers north of the border with Ukraine's Kharkiv region.
