American actor Mark Ruffalo, known for playing Hulk in Marvel films, backed rapper Macklemore’s “Free Palestine” concert with a video message. The concert took place on October 26 at Dublin’s 3Arena.
“Continue the struggle for a free Palestine. There will be no peace without equality,” Ruffalo said in the video, which was shown on a large screen. The audience responded to the message with an ovation.
Concert follows Sheeran controversy
The Dublin concert opened a series of three performances organized by Macklemore after he was removed from Ed Sheeran’s U.S. stadium tour. This happened about six weeks ago, after the rapper shouted “Free Palestine” at concerts at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
“The words ‘Free Palestine’ have become more controversial than the suffering that made them necessary,” Macklemore said from the stage.
Irish singer Hozier and rap group Kneecap performed at the concert, while actresses Cynthia Nixon and Ilana Glazer also recorded video messages. All proceeds will be donated to organizations helping Palestinians. The next concerts in the series will take place this week in Paris and London.
