Ukrainian Armed Forces veteran Stanislav Protsenko took the ceremonial first kick before the Ukrainian Premier League match between Donetsk’s Shakhtar and Luhansk’s Zorya. The game was played on October 24 at Arena Lviv and ended in a goalless draw.
Protsenko served as a reconnaissance soldier in the 132nd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the Air Assault Forces. According to the club, he took part in battles for the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar, as well as near Vuhledar, Soledar, Marinka and Bakhmut, where he was seriously wounded in a mortar attack.

Amputee team player
Since March 2025, the veteran has played for Shakhtar Stalevi, an amputee football team that the club created for military personnel and civilians who have lost limbs. With the team, he won bronze at the first Ukrainian amputee football championship and reached the final of the country’s first cup.
The stands greeted the veteran with applause, and he was also presented with a club shirt. Protsenko has received several awards, including the For the Defense of Ukraine badge.
A ceremonial first kick performed by wounded military personnel has become a tradition at Ukrainian championship matches.
