Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane was named the winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or at a ceremony held on 26 October at London’s Palladium Theatre. Kane became the fifth Englishman to receive the award and the first since Michael Owen, who won it in 2001.
During the 2025/26 season, Kane scored 73 goals for club and country. With Bayern Munich, he won the German league and the German Cup, while England reached the World Cup semifinals.
Kylian Mbappé finished second in the voting, with Lamine Yamal third. Rodri finished fourth and Lionel Messi fifth.
“Being in London is especially valuable; it felt like a good sign,” Kane said. In his words, the journey is what matters most: “For any boy or girl who wants to make their dream come true, nothing is impossible.”
The ceremony began 30 minutes late, at 20:30 local time, after the award’s official website mistakenly published the winners’ names several hours earlier. Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third time, Yamal was named the best young player, Spain coach Luis de la Fuente was named the best coach, and Unai Simón was named the best goalkeeper.
