Colombian rapper Chelo Hop tramples Israeli flag at Bogotá festival

Colombian rapper Chelo Hop stepped on an Israeli flag during her performance at a free hip-hop festival in Bogotá, as shown in concert footage.

The Hip Hop al Parque festival took place on October 24–25 at Simón Bolívar Park in Colombia’s capital. The footage shows a man beside the rapper waving an Israeli flag before it ends up on the stage floor, where Chelo Hop tramples it while continuing her performance.

According to Bogotá’s mayor’s office, Chelo Hop is a Colombian rap project led by performer Karol Restrepo, with AstrallBass serving as the project’s music producer. Its songs address social issues, including resistance and women’s experiences.

The artist was included in the festival program as one of the winners of the city’s grant competition in the MC category. The free festival is being held for the 28th time and is part of the “al Parque” concert series organized by Bogotá’s mayor’s office.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro severed diplomatic relations with Israel in May 2024 over the war in Gaza.
