Delegation from Türkiye's Education Ministry visits Meskhetian Turks' school in Talgar
Türkiye's Deputy Minister of National Education Ömer Faruk Yelkenci visited Private Boarding Lyceum No. 1 in Talgar, which operates under the World Union of Ahiska Turks. The sides discussed developing education cooperation between Türkiye and Kazakhstan.
Türkiye's Deputy Minister of National Education Ömer Faruk Yelkenci, along with Director General of Primary Education Ebubekir Sıddık Savaşçı and Director General of Secondary Education Cengiz Mete, visited Private Boarding Lyceum No. 1 in Talgar, Almaty Region. The school operates under the World Union of Ahiska Turks, the Consulate General of Türkiye in Almaty said.
Consulate general staff and the education attaché accompanied the delegation. The visitors reviewed the lyceum's educational activities and met with teachers and students.
During the visit, the sides discussed opportunities to develop cooperation between Türkiye and Kazakhstan in education.
Meskhetian Turks, also known as Ahiska Turks, were deported from Georgia to Central Asia in 1944. Today, Kazakhstan, including Almaty Region, is home to one of the largest Ahiska Turkish communities.
