French President Emmanuel Macron announced that winter support for Ukraine would continue, saying that Paris and Kyiv had signed a contract for radar deliveries and that interceptor missiles would be provided. The announcement came after Macron met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on Tuesday.
Zelenskyy said the meeting addressed Ukraine’s security and its needs during the winter. The two also discussed providing Ukraine with additional SAMP/T air-defense systems and missiles using financing available under the European Union’s loan framework.
The Ukrainian president said work was continuing to produce SAMP/T systems and missiles in Ukraine. Zelenskyy also said the first results of the FREYJA ballistic-missile defense program being carried out with partners were expected this year.
Macron said he and Zelenskyy had discussed Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in detail. The French president warned that the attacks were putting millions of families’ access to heating and electricity at risk.
Macron said France would stand with Ukraine throughout the winter and that the G7 Energy Group would also be mobilized to support the country. He added that Paris would provide interceptor missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
Macron said he had also discussed support for Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump. He said the talks addressed the possibility of an energy ceasefire and declaring a moratorium in the Black Sea.
