The 13th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States will convene in Ankara on October 29-30, 2026, under Türkiye’s hosting. The summit is planned as a high-level meeting to address political solidarity among the organization’s members, economic and trade cooperation, cultural ties and regional coordination.
The Ankara meeting is expected to see the chairmanship transferred from Azerbaijan to Türkiye. The Foreign Ministry said the summit would be held in Ankara and that the chairmanship would pass to Türkiye, while President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the meeting would take place on October 29-30.

The summit will be held on the 103rd anniversary of Republic Day
The meeting’s coincidence with the 103rd anniversary of Republic Day on October 29 gives the summit symbolic significance for Türkiye. The timing highlights Ankara’s political importance to its relations with the Turkic world and its role within the organization.
With Türkiye assuming the chairmanship, a new period will begin in which Ankara will shape the organization’s priorities. In addition to political relations, the summit is expected to address economic, transport, energy, defense industry and cultural cooperation. The meeting’s main theme, the content of the final declaration and the agreements to be signed have not yet been announced.
From the OTS’s establishment to the 2026 meeting
The foundation of the Organization of Turkic States was laid with the signing of the Nakhchivan Agreement on October 3, 2009. Initially established under the name Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, the organization adopted the name Organization of Turkic States in 2021.
Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are among the organization’s members. Turkmenistan holds observer status. The Turkic World Vision 2040 and the OTS Strategy 2022-2026 form the framework for the organization’s long-term cooperation and set out goals to improve political, economic, cultural and regional coordination among member and observer countries.

Ankara has hosted OTS leaders before. An extraordinary summit on natural disasters and humanitarian assistance was held under Türkiye’s hosting on March 16, 2023. The OTS Summit of the Heads of State was held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on November 5-6, 2024. The 2026 meeting in Ankara will be the 13th Summit of the Heads of State to be held after these summits.
As part of the summit preparations, a panel series titled "Turkic World Dialogues: Common Future, Common Vision" is being held in member and observer countries. The work, which began in September 2026, is being conducted as part of the diplomatic and public consultation process ahead of the leaders’ meeting.
