Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in Baku for the CICA summit, addressed the recent strain in Türkiye–Azerbaijan relations, triggered by Azerbaijan’s ban on headscarves in schools, which sparked debate and protests in Türkiye.
"We are ancient nations. We sit down and discuss our own problems in a way befitting this ancient past. There is no need for them to be turned into a propaganda tool on social media," Fidan told reporters.
Meeting with Aliyev
Fidan said his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev was held in this spirit and that "the unshakable bond between the two leaders will continue in the strongest way."
"At times there may be different approaches on certain issues. We must not let them wear down the strategic relations," he said, recalling the principle of "two states, one nation," which he said is evident in every field.

"Avoid attitudes that erode the bonds"
"The unbreakable bonds and brotherly relations between the two countries are important. We need to avoid attitudes that would erode this," Fidan added. The same day he also met Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku.
