Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held talks on October 30 at the presidential complex in Ankara with Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who had arrived for the 13th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The sides discussed bilateral relations as well as the regional and international agenda.
Türkiye’s Presidential Communications Directorate said Erdoğan underscored the importance of steps that would give fresh momentum to relations between the two countries in all areas, particularly trade, investment, energy and the defense industry. The Turkish leader praised Turkmenistan’s contribution to the development of the Turkic world and invited Berdimuhamedov to the summit of world leaders to be held as part of the UN climate conference COP31 in Antalya.

Address at the OTS summit
Speaking at the summit, Berdimuhamedov said Turkic states had broad economic potential and proposed developing cooperation in energy, transport, communications, industry, agriculture, construction, textiles and raw-material processing. He stressed the importance of increasing the capacity of the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor and said Turkmenistan was ready to use the infrastructure of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport for this purpose.
The president of Turkmenistan also advocated expanding OTS cooperation with the United Nations, joint projects in environmental protection, education and science, and the development of tourism. Common cultural values, he said, are “the unshakable foundation of the identity of our peoples.”
Turkmenistan has observer status in the OTS. At the summit, Erdoğan expressed hope that the country would become a full member of the organization as soon as possible.
