Direct air connectivity between Russia and Syria resumed with a Syrian Airlines flight from Damascus to Moscow. The passenger aircraft operated by Syria’s national airline landed at Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday, August 16, after approximately 18 months.
The aircraft received a water-cannon salute at Sheremetyevo for the first service on the Damascus-Moscow-Damascus route. Direct flights between the two cities have thus resumed.
Damascus service to operate every Sunday
The new route is planned to operate every Sunday with Airbus A320 aircraft. The scheduled arrival time at Sheremetyevo is 7:00 a.m., while the return flight from Moscow to Damascus is scheduled to depart at 8:10 a.m.
The Damascus-Moscow route is expected to improve air connectivity between Russia and Syria and expand Sheremetyevo Airport’s international route network.
The new services are expected to facilitate travel between the two countries for tourism, business, cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
