The average price of printed books in Russia rose to 509.49 rubles in 2025, surpassing the 500-ruble threshold.
This data, featured in a sector report published by the country's ministry responsible for digital development, revealed the price level in the printed book market.
Prices higher in bookstores, lower online
According to the same report, the average sale price of a book in traditional bookstores was calculated at 584.49 rubles. In online sales, the average price remained at 478.47 rubles.
This picture showed that the price gap between physical stores and online sales channels persists. A significant cost difference emerged in book purchases depending on the point of sale.
Number of books per basket decreased
Another striking piece of data in the report was the decline in the number of books per purchase. Accordingly, the number of books per receipt fell by 23.2 percent to 1.9.
For comparison, this figure was recorded as 2.47 in 2024. Thus, the basket volume of book purchases in Russia also shrank.
The data revealed that in 2025, both prices and the number of books bought per transaction pointed to a significant shift in the book market.
