The application deadline for the "Family Capital" competition held across Russia has been extended to June 30. The competition was initiated under the directive of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to a statement from the Mari El administration, the decision was made considering the large number of applications and preparation requests from municipal teams. The original deadline was set for June 21, 2026.
Artyom Zdunov, Head of Mari El and Chairman of the "Family" commission of the Russian State Council, held a video conference meeting with various regions of Russia on Thursday. During the meeting, the organizing committee supported the proposal to extend the application period.
Zdunov emphasized that the family-focused approach should be integrated into all federal programs. According to him, this principle should also be applied in the development of city infrastructure, and the competition should serve as a platform for regions to learn from each other's best practices.
According to data from the organizing committee, about a quarter of Russian cities with populations over 100,000—48 cities—have applied so far. Among the most active municipalities preparing are Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Omsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Noyabrsk, Irkutsk, Murmansk, Smolensk, Cheboksary, Veliky Novgorod, and Sevastopol.
The competition winner and category leaders will gain higher federal visibility as well as opportunities to attract additional funding for city development and federal-level events. Finalists are expected to be announced in August, with results planned for the end of the year.
Zdunov highlighted that the competition offers cities a chance to showcase a family-centered urban model. The organization has called on city teams to expedite their application processes.
