Robert Agee, the top executive of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, said that American companies are waiting for the opportunity to work again in Russia.
Agee stated that Russia has great potential and that this potential could help companies overcome some of the current challenges. He noted that some products, especially fertilizers, could easily be exported to the US market.
Agee said that some American technology and aviation companies that previously operated in Russia are closely following developments. He stated that these companies had to leave the market and are now looking for an opportunity to return.
Emphasized dialogue with Washington
The AmCham executive argued that working in Russia was much more difficult during the Joe Biden era, and that with the Donald Trump administration they see a desire to develop economic dialogue.
Agee said that there are currently contacts through two different channels, cultural and commercial, and that the most important thing is that the parties are talking. He claimed that during the Biden era there was no communication at all.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously said that the return of companies that left the Russian market would be viewed favorably if they had not behaved rudely or left a mark. Putin also stressed that the interests of Russian business would be taken as the basis in the return of foreign companies.
