Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the swift provision of PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles used in Patriot systems is Kyiv's top priority. Zelenskyy announced he will lay this critical issue on the table during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
The Ukrainian President made his statement at a press conference held as part of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in the Turkish capital Ankara. Zelenskyy appeared alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Zelenskyy noted that air defense is vital for protecting both civilians and soldiers, saying, "Increasing pressure on Russia requires more defense systems against ballistic missiles and tougher sanctions on Moscow."
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Ukraine has recently achieved significant successes in its strikes on Russia's energy and defense infrastructure. Rutte stated that the advance of Russian forces on the front has slowed, while Ukraine is achieving better results on the battle lines.
Rutte reiterated that strengthening Ukraine's air defense and protecting its cities are among the top priorities of NATO-Kyiv cooperation. Zelenskyy also noted that the NATO Defense Industry Forum is an important opportunity for Ukrainian companies.
Following the press conference, Zelenskyy and Rutte held a closed bilateral meeting to discuss joint support issues.
Ankara is hosting a NATO summit for the first time since the 2004 Istanbul Summit. This summit holds special importance due to the challenges facing the alliance and global security.
