The United States warned several Arab states in the Persian Gulf that they should prepare for a “short and intense military campaign” against Iran after the November 3 U.S. midterm elections, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources.
According to the newspaper, the U.S. military is moving a Patriot air defense system to the region from Texas, withdrawing personnel from vulnerable bases and replenishing ammunition stocks, while bombers and fighter jets are preparing for possible strikes. Next month, another carrier strike group and a Marine expeditionary unit are expected to join the approximately 20 U.S. warships already in the Middle East.

The newspaper wrote that President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision but is leaning toward a “large-scale strike after the elections” that could target Iranian infrastructure and nuclear facilities.
The White House declined to comment on “secret military plans that may or may not exist,” saying Trump is keeping all options open to ensure that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons. Speaking at a rally in Lubbock, Texas, on Tuesday, Trump said: “In a couple of weeks, you will see Iran.”
The new campaign would mark another round of hostilities: on February 28, the United States and Israel had already launched a war against Iran. Tehran responded with missile strikes and drone attacks across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz.
