Members of a Bosnian climbing group lost their lives in a mountaineering accident on Russia's highest peak, Mount Elbrus. Bosnia's rescue service said the seven-member team was caught in a storm and two climbers were rescued.
Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that rescue teams reached the bodies of two climbers at an altitude of 5,350 meters. The ministry said the bodies would be evacuated when weather conditions permit, and that the search for the other three climbers continues. No information was given about the climbers' nationalities.
According to Balkan media reports, the team that set out from the city of Zenica included a married couple and a doctor who worked at a local hospital. Russian media reported that adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, were hampering the search and rescue operation.
Mount Elbrus, located just north of the Georgian border and standing at 5,642 meters, is known for its sudden weather changes and challenging climbing conditions.
