A Turkish-Japanese project in Ahal
Türkiye and Japan have already worked together in Turkmenistan. A plant in Ahal province that produces gasoline from natural gas was built by a consortium of Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Türkiye’s Rönesans under a contract worth about $1.7 billion. Construction ran from 2014 to 2019, and the plant opened on June 28, 2019, with part of the financing provided by Japan’s JBIC.
The first plant to use the TIGAS process on an industrial scale, it processes about 1.785 billion cubic meters of gas a year and produces roughly 600,000 tons of gasoline. In 2023, Rönesans signed a memorandum on a second such plant with Turkmenhimiya, Kawasaki and Itochu.
