The 8th Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Officials in Charge of Media and Information of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Oct. 16 under the theme “Information Policy of the OTS Member States in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
OTS Deputy Secretary-General Ömer Kocaman said member countries aim to strengthen media cooperation and carry out joint initiatives against disinformation in the AI era. “Alongside the many opportunities AI offers, it also brings various challenges. We may face more sophisticated and organized fake news and disinformation,” he said.

A 2027 action plan
The meeting adopted a 2027 Action Plan that includes media programs and projects addressing AI-related challenges. A Turkish proposal to set up a network among member states’ broadcasting organizations was received positively. “We discussed how we can strengthen our cooperation in these areas and benefit from each other’s capacities,” Kocaman said.
Digital development and artificial intelligence were also among the main topics of this year’s OTS Informal Summit in Turkistan, Kazakhstan, after which member states began developing programs and projects in the field.
Results to be presented in Ankara
The outcomes of the Astana meeting will be presented to heads of state at the OTS summit in Ankara later this year, themed “Turkic World in the Century of Türkiye: Unity in Language, Thought and Action.” On the sidelines, Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications will host a dialogue forum with heads of media organizations from member states.
The previous, 7th meeting of OTS media and information ministers was held in Baku on Nov. 28, 2025.
