Russia’s Justice Ministry adds Mediazona to foreign agents registry
Russia’s Justice Ministry added the online publication Mediazona to the foreign agents registry on August 21, 2026. The ministry accused the outlet of spreading false information about Russia’s law enforcement system and the activities of Russian authorities, as well as taking an anti-SVO stance.
Mediazona was added to the foreign agents registry by decision of Russia’s Justice Ministry on August 21, 2026.
The ministry’s accusations
The ministry accused the online publication of spreading false information about Russia’s law enforcement system and the activities of Russian authorities. It said Mediazona had taken an anti-SVO stance.
Russia’s Justice Ministry also said the outlet had participated in creating materials prepared and disseminated by foreign agents and undesirable organizations.
Founders and employees
The ministry said that Mediazona’s co-founders included individuals with foreign agent status. It also noted that the editor-in-chief and some employees held the same status.
A designation indicating media outlets acting as foreign agents was placed next to Mediazona’s name.
