The small-capacity nuclear power plant project covering energy and advanced technology cooperation between Myanmar and Russia is scheduled to begin fieldwork next year. Rosatom Director General Sergey Likhachev announced that construction of the plant is targeted to start in 2027.
Likhachev said the contract required for the initial surveys is expected to be signed by the end of the year. He said the start of fieldwork would effectively mark the first stage of the construction process.
The schedule will depend on both sides’ preparations
The project’s timeline will not be shaped solely by Russia’s work. Likhachev said the preparations of the customer would also affect the construction period and schedule.
Following the signing of the agreement, the procedures specified in the contract are planned to be completed and work at the site is scheduled to begin.
Two RITM-200 modules planned for the plant
The nuclear power plant is expected to be built around two RITM-200 reactor modules. The project plans to use modules with a capacity of between 110 and 330 megawatts.
The Russia-Myanmar project aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and advanced technology. It is also expected to contribute to fundamental and applied scientific research.
