Machine manufacturers in Russia's Bryansk region have produced the country's first plot combine harvester for use in plant breeding. The domestically produced machine was designed to prevent different cereal and oilseed varieties from mixing during harvesting.
Bryansk Regional Governor Yegor Kovalchuk announced that the combine harvester had been developed entirely using domestic resources at the Bryanskselemas plant. According to Kovalchuk, the machine will operate in narrow strips 1.5 metres wide planted with agricultural crops.
The machine will separate seed varieties
The combine harvester's main function will be to collect different cereal varieties separately. This method will help preserve the species and varietal characteristics of seeds in plant-breeding work.
Kovalchuk said there was steady demand for the plot combine harvester despite its being a niche piece of agricultural equipment. The governor said that only machines made by foreign manufacturers had previously been used in Russia's plant-breeding work, adding that domestic production in Bryansk would meet this need.
The Bryansk regional governor described the machine's development as a major achievement for machine manufacturers in the region. Kovalchuk said that, in the future, most agricultural enterprises would prefer machines made by domestic manufacturers.
The Bryansk delegation presented Russia's first plot combine harvester at the Golden Autumn 2026 agricultural fair held in Moscow in October.
