A significant change is planned for Russia's pension system. Yekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy, and Veterans' Affairs, announced that insurance pension payments could be assigned automatically starting in 2027.
How will the new system work?
According to Stenyakina's statement, under the new regulation, the Social Fund of Russia will itself make the pension decision using data already in its system when a person is 30 days away from retirement age. The decision will be communicated to the future retiree within three business days.
This system will not require citizens to apply to the Social Fund of Russia for a pension or to collect documents. Stenyakina stated that the proposal would save people from unnecessary bureaucratic procedures and is highly beneficial.
Who will be eligible for automatic retirement?
The new automatic assignment procedure will apply to old-age pensions. This will include those reaching the standard retirement age (60 for women, 65 for men), as well as mothers of many children and parents of disabled children who have the right to retire early.
However, citizens with periods of work abroad will be excluded from this system. Automatic assignment will not apply to them because foreign work experience needs to be documented.
Conditions for automatic pension assignment
There are two main conditions for automatic pension assignment. Citizens must have at least 15 years of insurance experience and at least 30 pension points (individual pension coefficient).
The draft law prepared by the Russian Ministry of Labor is currently open for public consultation. Under the current system, to receive pension payments, a personal application must be made, either through Multifunctional Centers (MFC) or via the 'Government Services' portal.
