Yaroslav Nilov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy, and Veterans' Affairs, has made a proposal regarding the New Year holiday schedule.
Permanent Holiday Proposal
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Nilov stated that December 31 should be legally established as a permanent official holiday. He noted that this would prevent the annual artificial shifting of holidays.
"What absolutely needs to be done legally? To fix it once and for all that December 31 is a holiday, not a working day, it is a holiday. This year and next year these days will be non-working days, but all of this is done through shifting. It needs to be fixed so that these artificial shifts don't happen - that's all," he said.
Work and Rest Balance
The committee chairman said that January 8 could be shifted to December 31 to avoid disrupting the balance of working and holiday days.
"In any case, the period from January 1-7 will coincide with a holiday, which will allow, if necessary, extending the New Year holiday to 8 or 9 days. The government will look at optimization depending on which calendar, which year it is," he added.
Nilov noted that the production calendar for next year has not yet been approved and work is ongoing within the Russian government.
