The planned visit by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and Enerhodar has drawn statements from Russian officials. Russian State Duma lawmaker Mikhail Sheremet alleged that the visit was blocked on Aug. 18.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also said Ukraine had blocked the plan for Grossi to travel to the plant and Enerhodar on Aug. 20-21.
The visit was linked to the rotation of IAEA experts
Grossi’s planned visit to the region was to be arranged in connection with the next rotation of IAEA experts working at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Sheremet’s accusations against Zelenskyy
Sheremet held Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responsible for the visit not taking place. Sheremet alleged that Zelenskyy had threatened the international official to prevent Grossi from seeing the plant and Enerhodar, describing the move as “depravity.”
The Russian lawmaker argued that Zelenskyy was trying to conceal the truth about alleged war crimes committed by Ukrainian forces from representatives of international organizations in order to remain in power.
Sheremet also described Zelenskyy as “a jackal in sheep’s clothing” who was trying to portray himself as a supporter of peace.
