Russia has tightened the rules of stay for foreign workers and their families. President Vladimir Putin signed the document approving the legislative changes. The document was published on the official legal information portal.
Under the amendments to the law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation," migrant workers are now required to sustain themselves and their family members at the regional subsistence level. Those failing to meet this condition will not have their work patents or permits renewed. Migrants whose patents or permits are not renewed, and their close relatives, must leave Russia within 15 days.
The new regulation also includes significant changes for migrant children. Migrant children who turn 18 must either apply for a work patent in their own name or leave Russia within 30 days. The temporary stay of minor children cannot exceed the duration of the parent's patent.
The grounds for revoking a residence permit or temporary stay have also been expanded. If a migrant worker's income information is not available or the income per family member falls below the regional subsistence level, the length of stay may be reduced.
