Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the call by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to stop the fighting in Ukraine and return to the 2022 Istanbul agreements. Peskov said that freezing the conflict is impossible due to the stance taken by the Kiev administration.
During his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Omsk, Tokayev had called on the parties to agree to a ceasefire and return to the agreements reached in Istanbul. The Kazakh leader said, "The conditions are clear: if Kiev makes the right decisions, everything could end before the day is out."
Peskov said that in response to this proposal, Putin provided Tokayev with detailed information on the progress of Russia's special military operation.
At a meeting with government members last June, Russian President Vladimir Putin listed four basic principles that Moscow is ready to resolve the conflict. These principles were identified as the agreements reached in Istanbul, the methods discussed in Anchorage, the realities on the ground, and the principles he outlined in a speech at the Foreign Ministry in 2024.
