Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan can now be considered a reality.
Pashinyan made the remarks in a speech at the meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States, held on October 9 in Turkmenbashi, Türkiye. The Armenian prime minister said no one had been killed or wounded by gunfire in clashes between Armenians and Azerbaijanis for more than two years.
Pashinyan said that in the more than 30 years preceding this period, beginning in the 1990s, there had been deaths and injuries on both sides every year.

What the Washington declaration envisages
On August 8, 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump met in Washington. Following the meeting, a declaration was adopted envisaging the initialing by the foreign ministers of the two countries of an agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations.
Armenia also agreed to cooperate with the United States and third parties on establishing a route known as the “Trump Route” to promote international peace and prosperity. The route is intended to reopen, through Armenia, the transport connection between Azerbaijan’s mainland and its autonomous region of Nakhchivan.
