Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, announced at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly that the country's democratic transition process had begun. Rodriguez described the transition as "orderly, institutional and verifiable."
Speaking in New York, Rodriguez said Venezuela was working to restore its diplomatic relations. She said the democratic transition aimed to strengthen the country and declared, "Elections will be held."
Scope of the transition process
Rodriguez said the plan included reviewing the functioning of state institutions, judicial reforms and dialogue with opposition groups. She also noted that political talks aimed at ensuring the equal participation of all sides were continuing.
Calling on the international community, Rodriguez asked for support for Venezuela's democratic transition process while respecting the country's sovereignty.
Disputes with the US and earthquakes
Rodriguez said Venezuela had faced two serious challenges this year, identifying them as the political crisis linked to disputes with the US and the earthquakes that occurred on June 24.
Speaking of Venezuela's rebirth today "despite the bitter blows of fate," Rodriguez described the recently signed agreement between Venezuela and the US as one of the most important agreements ever concluded between the two countries.
Call for responsibility in artificial intelligence
Describing artificial intelligence as a "technological revolution," Rodriguez said the technology could bring unprecedented progress to people's lives if used properly.
Rodriguez said governments and the technology sector had an important responsibility to ensure that artificial intelligence did not stray from its purpose.
