Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that enriching uranium to 60% is not illegal and stays within Iran’s commitments under the Non-Proliferation Treaty for peaceful purposes.
Asked why Iran needs enrichment 20 times higher than required for electricity, he said Tehran had answered that question in its negotiations with the US. Iran offered a deal on its 60% material in 2025 and 2026, he said, and it “could be considered if they prove their goodwill.” He also said Iran was fully prepared for the war to resume and would stand firm “even if it comes to a doomsday war,” while remaining ready for diplomacy.
In the same interview, Araghchi described the seven-point plan Iran conveyed to the US through Qatari mediation as “extremely reasonable” and said rejecting it without reason would be a mistake by Washington. Tehran’s priorities include the release of frozen assets and permission to sell oil; Trump said on Saturday that he had rejected the terms.
