U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington’s pressure on Tehran was continuing, stating that Iran would not be able to possess nuclear weapons.
Trump spoke at an event held at the White House on restructuring the U.S. steel sector following the September 11 attacks. He argued that Iran had been severely punished and that his country had delivered it a harsh lesson, claiming that the naval blockade had succeeded.
The U.S. president claimed that Iran had come very close to obtaining nuclear weapons and said the country would no longer be able to possess such a weapon. Trump said they were still waging a war because of these developments.
Trump also argued that the naval blockade imposed by the U.S. Navy had greatly facilitated the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
Clashes between Iran and the United States
The clashes began on February 28 with attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, while Iran responded by carrying out attacks against Israel and U.S. targets in the region.
Washington and Tehran signed an agreement on June 18 concerning freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, but disputes over the strait’s security disrupted its implementation.
The United States resumed its attacks against Iran between July 8 and 24, while Iran targeted U.S. military facilities and equipment in some Arab countries.
