Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha stated that the agreement reached between the US and Iran is viewed in Kiev as an opportunity to reinforce Washington’s peace initiatives aimed at ending Russia’s aggression.
Sibiha emphasized the critical role of American leadership in ending this war. He noted that Ukraine believes peace efforts must result in a lasting arrangement that prevents Russia from launching future attacks.
The minister expressed that the agreement could contribute to long-term peace in the Middle East and the protection of human lives. He also stressed the importance of the process for stabilizing the global economy.
Sibiha further stated that restoring free maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is vital for stability in energy markets. According to him, this route should not open new opportunities for aggressors but should strengthen freedom of navigation, a fundamental principle of the international order.
The Ukrainian minister also noted that these issues will be central to the meeting between the Ukrainian President and the US President on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian. Kiev argues that the goal is not only to stop the war in both the Middle East and Ukraine but to achieve lasting peace.
It was previously reported that the agreement between the US and Iran is expected to be signed in Geneva on June 19. Donald Trump had earlier stated that a peace agreement with Iran had been reached and that the Strait of Hormuz would soon be reopened.
Following these developments, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy also announced their readiness to support the reopening of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
