A total of 1,424 advertising structures installed on trees in Moscow Region forests were removed during the first nine months of 2026. The dismantled structures included billboards, posters and tension-mounted advertisements, while the work focused particularly on forest areas near settlements.
Alexey Larkin, chairman of the Moscow Region Forestry Committee, said forest protection teams inspect the areas every day. Forested areas near summer cottage communities and villages are given priority during the inspections.
Advertising structures are attached to trees with nails, screws and wire
Some businesses install billboards and other materials directly on tree trunks to attract the attention of local residents. This is usually done using nails, screws or wire.
Intervention in tree trunks can make it easier for fungal spores and harmful insects to reach the wood. As a result, the trunk can be damaged, the tree’s growth can slow and its resistance to disease can decrease.
Removed advertisements handed over to law enforcement
Larkin said the 1,424 structures removed during the nine-month period were not merely dismantled; the materials were handed over to law enforcement so that action could be taken against those responsible.

Larkin said the fines for placing advertisements on trees were high, adding that stricter sanctions could also be considered if the fines were compared with the damage caused to forests.
Vinogradovsky branch removed the most signs
Among the branches of the Mosoblles organization in Moscow Region, the largest number of removals was carried out by the Vinogradovsky branch. A total of 291 advertising signs were removed there.
The Sergiyevo-Posadsky branch removed 205 advertising signs, while the Zvenigorod branch removed 98, the Podolsky branch 93 and the Borodinsky branch 85.
Organizations face fines of up to 300,000 rubles
Those who place advertisements on trees can face fines of up to 4,000 rubles for individuals, 40,000 rubles for public officials and 300,000 rubles for organizations.
