Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced that two ships had been targeted by drones in the country’s exclusive economic zone. The crew of one of the grain-carrying ships was rescued, while two people were injured.
The other ship sank and its crew was reported missing. No information was provided about the cargo it was carrying. Radev did not identify the country behind the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, meanwhile, said Russian maritime and aerial drones had attacked two merchant ships off the Bulgarian coast. Zelenskyy said Ukrainian defense forces were not conducting any maritime operation in the area.

Zelenskyy said the data was being checked with the Bulgarian side and that the Ukrainian navy had contacted its Bulgarian counterparts. He argued that the incident was a combined attack carried out by Russia.
Zelenskyy said the attack on the ships was a continuation of Russia’s attempts to make the western part of the Black Sea completely unsuitable for maritime transport.

Attack also reported off Romania
Zelenskyy also held Russia responsible for an attack on a ship off Romania a day earlier. Romanian authorities said two people had died because of the attack in the Black Sea and the fire that broke out afterward.
Russian authorities have not yet responded to Zelenskyy’s statements about attacks on ships in the Black Sea.
