Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Western countries of failing to supply the Patriot air defense missiles that Ukraine needs. Zelenskiy said that the United States and European countries have these missiles in storage, but that a 'political decision' is required for their delivery.
According to the Washington Post, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing a critical shortage of missiles for Patriot systems.
The Russian side argues that arms supplies to Ukraine prevent the resolution of the conflict and amount to 'playing with fire' by dragging NATO countries into a direct conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that any cargo carrying weapons to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. The Kremlin also said that the West's arming of Ukraine would not contribute to negotiations and would have a negative impact.
