Russia's nuclear energy company Rosatom announced that its container ship sailing in international waters in the Black Sea sank as a result of a drone attack carried out by Ukraine. The company's vessel named 'Yanaina' was targeted by two unmanned aerial vehicles while carrying frozen food and construction materials.
Rosatom General Director Aleksey Likhachev stated that all 17 crew members on board were rescued. Likhachev described the attack as 'piracy and maritime banditry' and said, 'It is impossible to explain this attack as anything other than piracy and the cutting off of the sea route.'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Saturday that attacks were carried out on three oil refineries in Russia and the 'Yanaina' container ship. This statement indicates that Ukraine is expanding its operations against Russia's civilian logistics lines.
Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. Moscow demands that Kyiv abandon its goal of joining Western military alliances for the operation to end, while Ukraine considers this demand as interference in its internal affairs.
