A drone attack targeted critical energy infrastructure in the Caspian Sea. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) announced on July 30 that one of its oil tankers had come under a drone strike.
The attack sparked a fire on the deck where the vessel's oil loading manifolds are situated. According to CPC, the blaze was brought under control and extinguished by the tanker's own crew with assistance from three CPC support vessels.
"There were no injuries or fatalities among CPC employees or contractor personnel. No oil spill occurred," the consortium stated. The tanker remains afloat and damage assessments are ongoing.
Following the incident, oil loading operations were temporarily suspended. However, pipeline infrastructure continued to function normally, CPC added. No request for medical aid or evacuation was made for the tanker's crew.
